You don't need to "prime" submersible pumps - they're already immersed in water. If your control box is good, then your pump (or at least your wiring) is not - that is, unless your well has run dry.

I've never had a 400' deep well before, but I imagine pumping from this depth is probably much harder on a pump. I've generally

Mostly just a confirmation of Don's answer. He's right, submersible pumps never need priming. IF your pump is running and you're getting no water, either the pump is shot, you have a huge hole in the feed line somewhere between the pump and the house, or the screen is plugged, or the well is dry.
