Q: pool testing people said that I should drain 1/2 of the pool because the liner could be damaged. Is there any other way to bring this level down/will it really hurt the pool? They said the level should be between 30 and 90.

YES, YES YES- the only way to rid your pool of this chemical is to dilute it with fresh water- see http://www.deh.enr.state.nc.us/ehs/quali ty/wph.htm for how much you should be using- it is an excellent site.
The pool company I work with has said that it could happen and I have never had to drain yet. I always keep the cover off in the off season and clean regular. It lets the sun work on the chlorine which reduces the concentration levels. I try to control the amount of chlorine, too. I use a floater because the feeder is harder to regulate with use. We
